I don’t know if this book is as ,ife as I think it is, or if I was just in the right place at the right time for this book to be a major game-changer for me.
At post those who read the book had small to medium improvements in general mental health, anxiety, depression, and burnout. I grew tired and angry when other humans would say “you just have to let things go” when I asked about acceptance. That being said – I really loved the chapters on values.

At the process level changes were found in mindfulness, acceptance, and psychological flexibility and these post changes mediated follow up outcomes. But the other part is this: Combines Eastern wisdom and behaviorist psychology for a very effective combination.
Hayes’ “acceptance and commitment therapy,” or ACT, is the “you are not your thoughts” philosophy of cognitive behavioral therapy with a different label slapped on top of it.

The sections on mindfulness were fine, but there’s much better material out there – anything by Thich Nhat Hanh would be a better choice.
A very helpful book for those wishing to take charge of their lives geet not be controled by their undesirable feelings, thoughts, etc. I recommend this book to anyone who has experienced episodes of depression or anxiety. Most of us spend our lives trailing after our minds, allowing our brains to take us in directions that are safe and secure, controlled and conformed.
The worksheet of valued living is really hard and complicated. I did not use it in a vacuum- rather did it while in therapy with a trained ACT therapist. The human mind does not like being dethroned, and it is hard to use words to rein in the word machine.
